Everyone should visit Iceland at some point in their life. The country is renown for its natural beauty and geyser hot springs, which are heated by the earths core. The great thing about Iceland is that it can be done in a weekend, or it can be done over a period of weeks. There truly is something for everyone.
The huge country, which is populated by only 325 thousand people, is the safest in the world, with a murder rate of 0-1.5 per year. This means that you won’t have to feel vulnerable as a woman travelling alone, or with a group of friends.
Travelling around the golden circle seems to be a favourite with tourists who visit the county. The golden circle entails three stunning locations including Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss waterfall. Tours can be purchased from the site Tourradar, starting from £343 and range up to £6,489. However, if you fancy doing it yourself, flights start from £19 one way from London airports.
Flying into, and spending time in Reykjavik is one of perks. The capital city is not very big, and resembles something of a very small city here in the UK. However, you will find some of the most exiting spots of the island here in the capital. The Harpa concert Hall is the city’s cultural hub. At night, the hall is illuminated in lights, and is extremely hard to miss. The concert hall is a symbol of Iceland’s financial crisis recovery, and therefore important to visit in order to understand and respect the culture.
If you feel brave enough, climb the hundreds of stairs to the top of the 74.5 metre high Hallgrimskirkja. The beautiful architecture of the church is simply stunning, and is the largest church in Iceland. This is one of the city’s best known landmarks and provides spectacular views across Reykjavik.

Not one to be missed when visiting this stunning country is the Blue Lagoon. This spa retreat might be on the pricier side, however, it is simply fantastic. The warm temperatures of the lagoon are perfect to relax in, with the water being naturally heated by geysers. However, some spots are a lot hotter than others, so be careful where go swim to. There is a swim up bar in the lagoon where you can purchase any drink with the help of your spa wristband, just don’t forget to par on your way out. If nudity is something you have a problem with, then be warned, as you have to have a naked, public shower before entering the lagoon.
With flight time being only three hours from the UK, there really is no excuse to visit this country that is full of natural geology. So give Iceland and try and don’t regret it.
