While travelling to destinations half way across the world will no doubt be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make, there is nothing more dreaded than the long haul flight need to take in order to get there. There are a few different tips you can follow to ensure that you have a comfortable journey and stay as fresh as possible.

The first one may be a given, but nevertheless it is vital. Investing in a good quality travel pillow really is a must. You can’t just order the cheapest one on amazon a couple of days before you leave, you need to spend time making sure that it’s the right pillow for you and will support your neck appropriately. It really is worth paying a bit more on a really comfortable pillow that will allow you to doze off into a deep sleep whilst travelling. You will not regret it, trust us.

One of the worst things about flying is the cold air that flows through the airplane cabin, and not only freezes you, but dries out your skin massively. Dry skin will lead to your skin breaking out and you really don’t want to deal with any unnecessary spots as soon as you get on holiday, talk about stress. Make sure you pack a good moisturiser that is no more than 100ml, otherwise you’ll have to throw it away when you get to airport security (heart-breaking). Keep moisturising during your flight, don’t wait until your skin starts to feel dry as it will be too late. There really is no such thing as over-moisturising when you fly.

Depending on accessibility to the airplane bathrooms, it might be a good idea to pack a face mask that you can indulge in whilst travelling. This will instantly make your skin feel more hydrated as well as clean, and stop any breakouts in their tracks. Whilst we’re on the topic of clean skin, don’t even bother wearing make up, you don’t want to be worrying about reapplying or taking it off before you sleep. It is so much easier just to embrace your bare face before hopping on a plane.

It’s really important to stay hydrated on planes. Make sure you pack an empty bottle than you can refill or buy one as soon as you are passed airport security, otherwise you’ll have to pay a ridiculous amount for an overpriced bottle once you’re on the plane. Don’t be afraid to ask the flight attendants to refill your bottle once you’ve finished off your first bottle, as they will be more than happy to comply. It might be annoying to have to keep going off to the toilet as a result of drinking lots, but you feel so much fresher once you’re off the plane compared to being dehydrated.

Make sure you pack a clean change of clothes that you can change into once to get to your destination. If you’ve spend hours on a flight, then you are going to have sweat a lot in the clothes that you were wearing, that’s just a fact. Nothing perks you up more than changing into a fresh new outfit before you brace the world outside of the airport.

Whilst making a list of what to include in your travel luggage, be sure to include a bottle of antibacterial, and while you’re at it, pack a few more bottles in your hold luggage. These will be your saviours whilst travelling. If you want an instant refresher, then squirt some of this on your hands, rub it in, and you’ll feel better for it. It can often be annoying to have to get up to go to the toilet every time you want to wash your hands, so this is a quick fix. If you’re not a fan of antibacterial gel then invest in some hand wipes, as these will work just as well.
