As soon as you step off the plane, you are automatically in holiday mode. This means overindulging in food and drink a lot of the time. Whereas at home you might avoid that extremely sugary unhealthy snack, when you’re on holiday it doesn't matter so much if you go ahead and eat it. This is of course absolutely fine and you should treat yourself whilst travelling and try as much local food as you can. However, for some, they might be more concerned about how they can stay healthy whilst travelling, and the steps they can take to avoid overindulgence.

When travelling, you eat out a hell of a lot. This can mean having quite a big lunch and dinner on some days, as you are eating out twice a day. Try and limit having a large meal to once a day. Ensure that you keep snacking throughout the day so that you don't get hungry, and just have something light for lunch, whatever that may be. When you do have a large meal, make sure that it is balanced. Make sure your plate includes vegetables, proteins, carbohydrates as well as health fats. If you have a big plate full of carbohydrates everyday then you wont be staying healthy, and might even get ill as a result of missing vital vitamins from your diet.

Cutting back on alcohol is also something to consider. We don't want to spoil your fun and are definitely not saying to cut it out completely, just be wary of how much you are consuming. Also remember that when you are in a foreign country, being intoxicated and drunk can put you in a dangerous position, as you are less aware of your surroundings. Therefore, limiting your alcohol intake might not be such a bad idea. Alcohol is full of toxin and can leave you very dehydrated which is dangerous, especially if you are in hot countries. Look on the bright side, you would rather be hangover-free on your travels.

If exercise is something that you are into, and are concerned about not being about to work out as much on your travels, look up where gyms are in the local area before you go. Google maps is really handy for this as you can see exactly how far away a gym is from where you are staying. A lot of gyms will allow you to pay each time you visit, rather than having to get a membership which is a bonus. It can be difficult to pack workout clothes due to limited space, so try and compromise by investing in workout clothes than can be worn for exploring as well. This means that you can wear your gym clothes on an everyday basis also. Trainers are great for trekking and long walks, so don't be afraid to pack these.

Drinking plenty of water is key to feeling good whilst you are away. It can be easy to forget to drink water throughout the day when you are busy, so always try and keep a water bottle with you when you are out and about, so that you can continually drink it. Water will keep you healthy by flushing out any unhealthy toxin, which might be making you feel unwell. As well as this, staying hydrated makes you feel awake and alert, so that you can go exploring without the worry of feeling worn out and exhausted.

Don’t worry too much about not sticking to a strict workout regime that you might be used to at home. It is important to indulge a little, trying out local cuisine while you are away. Remember, travelling is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and you should live in the moment and make the most of it.
